Onions, like garlic belong to the Allium family.
They are a hardy, healthly vegetable which is a great addition to your diet & can be used to add flavour to meals.
The colour of the onion gives an indication to its characteristics.
White onions are the strongest, followed by yellow, and red or the purple having the mildest flavour.
Choose onions that are clean, well shaped, very firm to pressure with no discolouration of the skin.
