Orange - Blood
Orange - Blood
Variety Description:

Smaller than the average orange.
Skin is usually pitted but can also be smooth.
Depending on the variety of blood orange there can be dark colouring on the exterior of the rind.
The flesh is usually crimson or blood coloured.
The distinctive dark flesh colour is due to the presence of anthocyanin.

Selection:

Look for good quality oranges that are firm and heavy for their size.
Try and select those with fine textures and smooth thin skin.
Avoid those with soft spots or bruising as this indicates possible fermentation.
Also avoid those with loose skin as the orange may be dry inside.
